Farming Operation
Michael and his wife, Patti, started their journey in agriculture in 1985 after graduating from The Ohio State University. Their goals were to raise a family that would be deeply rooted in agriculture and the community they live in. Their journey was never simple but they had the passion to make this dream come true. They have built their farming operation from nothing to a family-run business in Medina County, Ohio. Their goals and mission statement include customer service, plant quality and cleanliness in their operation. Boyert’s Greenhouse and farm supports 45 employees with an annual revenue of $4.7 million. They have turned their farming operation over to their sons and they are presently moving this part of their operation to the next level in the purebred cattle industry. Michael is a third-generation farmer and is very much ready to tell his whole story to each and everyone.

Biographical Information
Since graduation it has been my dream to work side by side with family on our family farm. We have raised six children and five are presently involved in our day-to-day operations at Boyert’s, with my sixth child farming in Iowa with his family raising cattle. I believe relationships and partnerships in the community are essential for our success every year. My belief in community and love for agriculture has helped move Boyert’s to the garden center of choice in Medina County for all of your gardening needs. A strong agricultural legacy is important to me, as I have looked back on my parents and their love for farming. As I move into the future, I want to see my children have those same opportunities and dreams we had and this will be possible with great relationships through Farm Credit Mid-America. Being involved with the cooperative system my whole life, I am looking forward to helping set up the future in agriculture for the next generation of young farmers.
Our biggest accomplishment to date is the Growing Tomorrow grant that my wife and I set up. It was a vision for giving back to the next generation of young farmers with that same passion and fire we had when we started our agricultural journey. The grant has awarded $150,000 since inception and has been funded by the farming community in Ohio. It also has roots from Farm Credit Mid-America in Louisville as well as Nationwide Insurance in Columbus.
Why do you want to serve on the Farm Credit Mid-America Board?
I believe the diversification of Ohio agriculture is so vast with corn, beans and animal agriculture still the front runner in Ohio agriculture. The diversification on the Farm Credit Mid-America board representing all of Ohio agriculture can be lopsided. I personally would like to take the challenge to sit on this board to bring another insight into daily representation of all segments of Ohio agriculture.
